How to share designs for review without making clients sign up
July 11, 2026 · 4 min read
You send work for review, and the tool asks your client to create an account, confirm an email, and set a password before they can leave a single comment. Half of them never finish. The other half reply in email anyway, which is the exact mess you were trying to avoid.
The fix is link-based review: the client opens a link, marks up the work, and leaves a decision, with no account and no password. Here is why that matters and what good link review still needs to get right.
Why a required login costs you
- It kills momentum. The moment to get feedback is when the client opens your message. A signup wall spends that moment on admin instead of the work.
- Response rates drop. Every extra step between the link and the comment box loses people, especially the senior approver you most need.
- You inherit support questions. “I did not get the invite” and “it will not let me log in” become your problem to chase.
- Clients resent another login. Nobody wants a new account for a tool they will use twice. It reflects on you, not the tool.
How link-based review works
Instead of inviting the client into an app, you share a link to the specific work. They open it in the browser, see the current version, and comment directly on the file: draw, point with arrows, and drop pins on the exact spot. When they are done, they make a call, approve or request changes, and you get it back in one place. No account is created, so there is nothing for them to forget.
What no-login review still needs to get right
No account does not mean no control. A link review is only good if it also handles the basics:
- The link is private. It should point to that review only, not expose your whole workspace, and it should be yours to revoke.
- The decision is recorded. Even without an account, who approved and when should be captured, so a “yes” holds up later.
- Feedback lands in one place. Comments from a link reviewer should sit alongside everything else, not in a separate silo.
Get those right and you keep the speed of a plain link with the accountability of a real approval.
Try it on your next review
Simple Approvals is built around this: internal team members have accounts, but the clients and outside reviewers you send work to just open a link and mark it up, free and without signing up. It is often the difference between a same-day answer and a review that sits and goes stale.
The free plan lets you run three active reviews with unlimited outside reviewers, so you can see the response-rate difference on a real project before you pay anything. For the full loop, see our guide to a lean approval workflow.
